Dean Baldwin Celebrates with SkyWest Airlines

May 19, 2023

Barbara Baldwin-McNulty presented plaques to Bill Dykes and Wayne Wignall at the Skywest Airlines offices in St. George, Utah in appreciation for the 20 year relationship between the two companies. Skywest Airlines was Barbara’s first customer, 20 years ago, at the newly opened Roswell paint facility.

Twenty years ago, in Roswell, New Mexico, Dean Baldwin Painting Lp. opened its first full service facility.  Before 1999 Dean Baldwin Painting didn’t have its own facility.

SkyWest Airlines was the first customer at the new operation. SkyWest was familiar with the Baldwin quality having had aircraft painted by Baldwin at Patriot prior to it’s closing.  SkyWest was the only customer during that first year.  Based on recommendations from SkyWest, Mesa Airlines brought aircraft to the facility.  Next came America West who merged with US Air and later merged with American Airline.     In 2001, Dean Baldwin Painting was awarded a five year contract with the US Air Force to de-paint and paint C130 aircraft for Hill Air Force Base.

Today 120 aircraft are painted each year in Roswell, NM.  SkyWest Airlines, Mesa Airlines and American Airlines are still customers of Dean Baldwin Painting to this day.  The facility employs over 120 men and woman who operate the 24/7 operation.  The company is still known in the industry for its quality and is one of the most well respected aircraft painting companies in North America.  The Roswell location became 20 years old in 2019; however, Dean Baldwin Painting has been in operation for over 54 years.  The headquarters are in  Bulverde, Texas and has other facilities located in Indiana; Arizona and Texas, in addition to the 165,000 square foot facility in Roswell, NM.  Fall of 2020 the company will be opening its new full service facility in Macon, GA.

“Those were tough times; but, we were all very eager to start our own facility.  We got a lot of support from SkyWest,” Barbara lamented. “We owe our success to SkyWest.  If it were not for their help and guidance during the first year we would not be around today.”
