Following nearly 10 months of construction to renovate and expand the aircraft painting facility in Peru, Indiana, Dean Baldwin Painting officially opened its hangar doors for business this past weekend. Groundbreaking first took place in May 2012 to convert Hangar 200 at the Grissom Aeroplex into a world-class aircraft painting facility. An existing 98,000-square-foot facility was modernized, expanded to 155,000 square feet, and converted to a strip and paint hangar that will now allow the induction of much larger aircraft like the B777 and B747-8 aircraft.
Barbara Baldwin, president and CEO of Dean Baldwin Painting, LP., was personally on hand to greet the first aircraft to enter the facility this weekend. The arrival marked a significant milestone for the Peru, Indiana community in its efforts to redevelop the former Grissom Air Force Base. Since the realignment of Grissom, the community’s vision has been for a mixed use development of the former base to include aviation. Dean Baldwin Painting’s presence in the new facility here at Grissom is the first true reuse of some of Grissom’s aviation assets.
“Our company is extremely thrilled this day has finally arrived,” said Baldwin. “And, I dare say that the aviation industry is thrilled as well.”
This new facility will nearly double the size of the company by adding another 155,000 square feet and six more fully-equipped, eco-friendly paint bays to its already available 200,000 square feet and seven paint bays. Dean Baldwin Painting also anticipates that 200 new jobs will be created over the next 12 months.
